Welcoming Congregation

Unitarian Universalists believe that our first principle—respecting the inherent worth and dignity of every person, applies equally to people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. Recognizing that negative attitudes, deep prejudices, and profound ignorance about bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender persons are more prevalent in our society and even in our congregations than we would like, UUA General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in 1989 to initiate the Welcoming Congregation program to aid congregations in creating a welcoming and caring community for all people.

The Unitarian Universalist Church in Fullerton is a Welcoming Congregation and is committed to:

Including and addressing the needs of bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender persons at every level of congregational life.

Fully incorporating the experiences of bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender persons throughout all programs, including religious education.

Celebrating the lives of all people and welcoming same-sex couples recognizing their committed relationships, and equally affirming displays of caring and affections without regard to sexual orientation.

Seeking to nurture ongoing dialogue between bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, and heterosexual persons and to create deeper trust and sharing.

Speaking out when the rights of bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people are at stake, paying attention to legislative developments, and working to promote justice, freedom, and equality in the larger society.

Whoever you are, whomever you love, we welcome you.

The members of the congregation are sincere in believing in the inherent worth of every individual, our mutual interdependency, and the need to create a world in which each of us can flourish.
