CareerWise provides career development to homeless people. This program was started by three of our members and has now grown into today's interfaith nonprofit which serves 350 homeless clients a year at 12 shelters in north and central Orange County. Three UUCF members now sit on the CareerWise Board.
Volunteers write resumes and help the clients with job searches. Interviewing techniques and computer skills are taught. Tutoring for the GED is provided. Job retention skills are emphasized.
CareerWise takes individualized career development to the homeless client rather than requiring travel by the client to an overburdended center or class, minimizing issues such as transportation, childcare, and low self-esteem.
CareerWise also provides eight California State University, Fullerton Internships each semester.
Whether you are a member of the congregation or not, please consider changing the prospects of homeless people by volunteering to help them find and keep work through CareerWise.
