The distinguished choral conductor, Unitarian, self-proclaimed atheist, and lifetime member of the Freedom from Religion Foundation, David Randloph, recently wrote that there is "No such thing as religious music". As conductor of many of New York's finest performances of Handel's Messiah and other sacred masterpieces for nearly 70 years, Maestro Randolph is in a position to know. Keith Clark argues that his esteemed colleague is wrong. Keith Clark is active as a symphonic conductor and composer. His many recordings include those with orchestras from London, Vienna, Seoul and the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, of which he is the founder. He has taught at American and European schools of music, regularly leads orchestral and theater ensembles of Russia and Austria and is the Artistic Director of the Astoria Music Festival and Portland MusicFest Opera in Oregon. Early in his career he directed church music programs in inner-city Los angeles, Bel Air Presbyterian Church, the Cathedral Concert Series at Newark's Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and the New Jersey Bach Festival. He has composed a large catalogue of sacred works.
