The Hungry and the Homeless
UUCF contributes financial aid and volunteer hours to many organizations working to alleviate hunger and homelessness in our community and the world. Here are a few of the projects we support.
Pathways of Hope: Formerly know as Fullerton Interfaith Emergency Shelter, Pathways of Hope provides housing and food for families in the Fullerton area. UUCF collects food every Sunday that is then distributed to the hungry through this organization. This is a Religious Education project and our children are directly involved. During the holiday season, many holiday gifts are donated by our members to POH
Take Them a Meal is a program at Pathways of Hope that allows you to sign up to provide dinner for up to 10 homeless clients at the ISN Center Shelter located in the First United Methodist Church at 204 E. Amerige in Fullerton. To sign up, please click http://www.takethemameal.com/meals.php?t=PRSJ2672 to choose a date.
Fullerton Armory Homeless Shelter: The armory houses the homeless during the fall and winter months. Members of UUCF volunteer hours there every week helping to serve food, set up sleeping mats, and distrubute clothing. UUCF members also donate gently used clothing to the armory and we buy new socks, underwear, toiletries, hot chocolate, and other items to distribute there every week.
Crittenton Unaccompanied Minors Program: Every month, members of UUCF, in partnership with Crittenton, help provide recreational activites for children and teens who are detained due to their undocumented status. This program supports our commitment to "Immigration as a Moral Issue". During the Holiday season twenty five new gifts are donated for specific children living at Crittenton Homes.
Crop Hunger Walk: This walk to help fight hunger in our own community and in the world is held every spring. UUCF members participate and last year raised $3,679 to help fight hunger. This was the second highest amount raised by any group participating. Click Here for more information.
