CURRENT CAMPAIGN:2025
GOALS FOR SOCIAL ACTION AT UUCF:
In November 2024 the Social Action Committee surveyed the congregation for issues of greatest importance and where we can work to improve things at a local level. We adhere to our first UU principle, to respect the inherent worth and dignity of all people, and to our UUCF pledge with “service as our prayer” and to “serve human need.” Three areas emerged as concerns for our community:

DISABILITY RIGHTS – People who live with disabilities deserve the same rights and protections as everyone else, however, there are currently threats to end public benefits such as SSI, Medicaid, special education, and so forth. Our goal in the coming year is to provide educational opportunities regarding disabilities for our congregation and community, and to advocate for the rights of those most vulnerable among us.

EDUCATION – Education is the key to building a successful life and society, starting with preschool and early childhood education, all the way up to graduate studies. Our goal is to advocate for public school benefits such as Head Start, ethnic studies in high school, and early literacy programs. Volunteer opportunities in the local community, as well as advocacy with elected officials are being planned.

REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE – Following the Dobbs Decision in 2022 UUCF has worked to support the inherent worth and dignity for all women to have the right to choose their reproductive health care. We have partnered with Planned Parenthood on a variety of activities, raising over $15,000 to help women traveling from other states to receive abortion care. Our reproductive justice campaign was highlighted in the national UU magazine “UU World” in 2024. We will continue this important work.

* produced and performed two plays on reproductive justice
* participated in rallies/ marches to support reproductive justice/ abortion rights
* sponsored a $10,000 matching grant with Planned Parenthood
* supported legislation for abortion rights
UUCF congregants have indicated that reproductive justice is an issue of great importance, and for that reason, we will continue our work!
