Social Action

Unitarians and Universalists have long worked for justice in the United States and
abroad advocating for the free practice of religion, helping to abolish slavery, marching
for civil rights, and supporting a woman’s right to reproductive health.

Social Action Vision

Empowering the congregation to choose issues for study and action Integrating social justice issues into the overall life of the congregation.

Social Action

The Social Justice Team acts to make a difference in our congregation, the larger community, and the world. Our efforts are guided by our Unitarian Universalist shared values as we seek to work for the vulnerable in our community in areas such as housing/homelessness, immigration/racial justice and environmental justice. Towards this end, we collaborate with other community groups whose goals intersect with ours.

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer, whether you have ten minutes or a whole day. You can be a part of shining a light of hope and love.

Current Campaign: 2025

Goals for Social Action at UUCF:

In November 2024 the Social Action Committee surveyed the congregation for issues of greatest importance and where we can work to improve things at a local level.  We adhere to our first UU principle, to respect the inherent worth and dignity of all people, and to our UUCF pledge with “service as our prayer” and to “serve human need.” Three areas emerged as concerns for our community:

Disability Rights

Education

Reproductive Justice

Other Areas of Focus in 2025:

Immigration

Homelessness

Voting

Ongoing Annual Projects

  • Pathways of Hope food collection (weekly)

  • Diaper Drive with United Way (May/June)

  • Crittenton Holiday Angels (Nov/Dec)

  • Book Study groups (TBD)

  • Various opportunities to aid neighbors who are unhoused or food insecure

During 2023 to 2024 we:
  • Hosted monthly small fundraisers (e.g., lunches, bake sales)

  • Produced and performed two plays on reproductive justice

  • Participated in rallies/ marches to support reproductive justice/ abortion rights

  • Sponsored a $10,000 matching grant with Planned Parenthood

  • Supported legislation for abortion rights

UUCF congregants have indicated that reproductive justice is an issue of great importance, and for that reason, we will continue our work!

Meetings are the 2nd Sunday of every month after the service
Contact Debbie Langenbaucher, chair of SAC, for more information.
