Through the story of Urban Voices Project's unlikely beginnings inside a community health clinic in Los Angeles' Skid Row, Leeav Sofer explores how his understanding of music, service, and community was fundamentally transformed. Rather than asking how the arts can fix people, this talk invites audiences to consider how music creates the conditions for dignity, belonging, and human connection to emerge.
Founded by musician and educator Leeav Sofer, Urban Voices Project is a Los Angeles nonprofit that harnesses the transformative power of music to build community, foster resilience, and amplify the voices of individuals experiencing homelessness. Rooted in Skid Row, the organization creates inclusive spaces where participants connect through singing, creative expression, and shared humanity, using music as a pathway to healing, belonging, and self-advocacy.

UU Fullerton Sunday services start at 11:30 am and are a blend of traditional and contemporary worship practices and routines. Spoken word, music, meditation, and silent reflection are woven into the tapestry of our Sunday worship services.

What to Expect at a UUCF Worship Service
Sunday services start at 11:30 am and are a blend of traditional and contemporary worship practices and routines. Spoken word, music, meditation, and silent reflection are woven into the tapestry of our Sunday worship services.
We gather together in spiritual community because we need constant reminders of what matters most in life. In a world of heartbreak and dehumanization, our congregations and communities call us to our better selves. We learn to live with more wisdom, more connection, and more compassion.
Our Worship Services are weekly reflections that weave together our own thoughts and experiences with music, beauty, poetry, and words that both comfort and challenge.
Our programs for all ages inspire us, and awaken us to our capacities to make a difference in our own lives and in the world.

A Typical Sunday at UU Fullerton
Words of welcome
Lighting a flaming chalice, the symbol of our faith
A multi-generational segment where the children come to the front of the sanctuary before going to their classes. We call this "time for all ages”
Music, both instrumental and vocal and in a variety of styles
A time for lifting up the joys and sorrows of the congregation
A meditation or prayer
Readings — ancient or contemporary
A sermon
An offering for the congregation or for justice work in the community
From time to time, worships incorporate holiday celebrations, multi-generational plays and pageants, longer musical performances, child dedications, and milestone or coming-of-age ceremonies. We offer childcare and learning programs for children and youth during the Sunday service. Dress is casual.
