Has the UU Become Too Political? Sunday Adult Religious Exploration Class 09/06/26
A focus on social justice and political activism is an important part of UU shared values, but can too much overshadow spiritual growth and exploration? Or do liberal social justice and political activism actually serve as ways to gain spiritual growth and spiritually explore/live out one's faith?

"While many see a focus on social justice and political activism as an important part of UU shared values, the problem is politics and social justice have overshadowed spiritual growth and exploration. Sometimes people are seeking someplace that's a spiritual oasis, to find peace and calm, a non-partisan community away from the constant negativity of politics...."
Here is a reply to this concern by another member of the same website:
"Liberal social justice and political activism ARE ways to gain spiritual growth and spiritually explore and live out one's faith. They are ways of putting one's faith and values into action for the common good. The 8 Principles of UU describe the values by which UUs are in unity, and those values require us to live our faith out loud socially and politically for a better world.
